Those who know us know how much we value good food. For us, good food is nearly as important as having a good location and great watersport conditions. One without the other is only a poor substitute. It doesn’t need to be fancy food. I personally would be way too tired and hungry after a good day on the water to appreciate that, but rather healthy and nutritius food. Delicious comfort food. Real food, that gives you the energy to keep going and enjoy what you are doing. This is at the center of our consideration when choosing a caterer for our Surfari Trips and organising a menu.Â
We start the day with a classic continental breakfast, which shows my German roots. Breakfast is the only meal that we (Bevan and Heidi) are personally preparing for you. All other meals are taken care of by our amazing caterers. For breakfast, we liaise with a local bakery and offer you a variety of fresh artisan breads with butter and spreads (honey, jam, peanut butter, Marmite). There is also muesli with milk, yoghurt and fresh seasonal fruit available. A fruit bowl is there for you to help yourself at any time. Bevan keeps the coffees coming: Long black, cappucchino or latte, there is a bottomless supply. Or grab yourself a tea or glass of orange juice if you are not a coffee person.Â
Breakfast is usually the time when plans are being finalised for the day as we check for the latest update of the wind and weather forecast.
Our packed lunches are delivered early by our caterer. This gives you the freedom to eat whenever you want. Some people prefer to have a bite to eat before they get on the water, some are hungry after a few hours, others just don’t want to stop playing and have a late lunch after their (long) session. It also gives you the freedom to roam, do your own thing if you wish, go to a different spot. Hence lunches are packed individually. One thing that our lunches have in common with all our other food is that they give you that much needed energy. A club sandwich with white toast bread or a sweet panini won’t cut it!
So, if it’s not a club sandwich, what are the lunches? Lunch is a bit more complicated to explain, as words like “sandwich” or “salad” might give you the wrong idea. We value a nutrituis lunch, that gives you energy for that second session in the afternoon and doesn’t only fill you up. The lunches we provide for you are either a salad (with some carbs and protein), a wrap full of goodness, a quiche or a chiabatta sandwich full of greens and protein. And then there is always desert, such as a slice or a sweet bar to finish it off.Â
We also have an emphesis on the environment. Not only is your lunch a nutritious meal, it is also packed environmentally friendly. No styrofoam boxes, no plastic cutlery, no excess clingfilm that is not absolutely necessary. Our individually packed lunches come in compostable or recycable cardboard boxes and paper bags.Â
Dinner is the main event of the evening and and essential part of every Water Nomads Surfari. It’s the time of coming together around the the big dining table and connecting with like-minded watersport enthusiasts that makes your Surfari special. Over a plate full of delicious food, tall stories about the adventures of the day are being told, and the conversation often evolves around watersport. But there is so much more to it, and by the time dessert is being served, a good banter has often moved on to other subjects.
We usually leave the dinner menu completely to the discretion of our caterers after communicating dietary requirements of the group. Dinner is often like a signature of the individiual caterers on our different Surfaris – we love the variety and enjoy being surprised as you are!
You see, good food is important to us. And so is the social aspect that comes with sharing a meal. The joy of sitting down together after a fun day playing on the water. Reliving those experiences move by move over a lovely dinner and a glass of wine – that’s where memories are being made and where friendships start.Â
Are you getting hungry now? You don’t want to miss out?
Join one of our Surfari Trips and we (and our caterers) will look after you!
