What Our Guests Say

FAQ | Surfari Trips

When you join one of our windsurf and wing-foil holidays, you’ll travel with Water Nomads and a small group of like-minded companions (up to 10 guests). We handle all the details, including accommodation, meals, snacks, and local spot advice, so you can focus on the water. We also make sure to capture some great action shots of you during the trip!

Our trips are for intermediate and advanced riders, but we can accommodate beginners who have had basic lessons. Most of our guests will be on the water at the same location, but we can provide advice on which spots will work best for your skill set. To make this easier, we provide individually packed lunches, so you don’t have to miss out on a good session.

While our trips are not lessons, we can provide intermediate-level wingsurfing or wingfoiling instruction by prior arrangement. We also offer helpful tips and advice on the most appropriate spots and conditions for the day based on your skill level.

No, our trips will happen regardless of the forecast. A forecast is just a prediction, and it will likely change. Our Surfari trips are timed to maximize the best local weather conditions.

Transport is included in some trips but not others, so be sure to check the individual trip details.

For most trips, we use carefully selected 3-star, family-style homes that are central to the primary water activities. Luxury trips may feature 4-5 star accommodations. You can find descriptions and photos of the accommodation on each individual Surfari trip page.

Yes, we do. To book a twin-share room, you and the person you’re sharing with must book and pay together. We do not arrange twin-share partners for you.

Yes, partners are absolutely welcome! Our accommodations are comfortable and offer double-room occupancy. While much of the conversation will be about wind and gear, there are plenty of non-watersports activities in our destinations. We are happy to help you with ideas for exploring the area, from exploring beautiful beaches in Northland to hiking Mount Taranaki or biking the Alps to Ocean cycleway. Our groups are small, fun, and inclusive.

Many of our trips are suitable for families with youths over 16 years old. Non-sailing partners are also welcome, as most of our destinations offer many local activities outside of watersports.

Generally, our trips are self-drive, meaning you need your own vehicle to get to the accommodation and get around during the trip. However, some trips, like our Great Barrier Island and Canterbury Lakes Surfaris, have transport included. Check each individual trip page for details.

Our Surfari trips are holidays and can be enjoyed by anyone in a reasonable state of health and fitness. If you have any concerns or medical limitations, we recommend contacting us to discuss the physical requirements.

No, we do not have a rescue boat. We operate under the motto, “If in doubt—stay out.” It’s expected that your skill level is sufficient for self-rescue. Our locations are often remote, and everyone looks out for each other. We carefully select spots that are safe for everyone, and sometimes we even visit two different spots in a day to match the conditions to different skill levels.

Yes, kitesurfers and kite-foilers are welcome. However, some locations may have tricky launching spots that require a high skill set. Our Northland trips are the most kite-friendly, with easy launches and good conditions. Taranaki has amazing waves but can be very challenging for launching. The Canterbury Lakes also have tricky launching spots with trees and powerlines. Please contact us to discuss access and conditions in more detail if you’re unsure.
