SURFARI TRIPS FOR 2025

A great Surfari line-up for next season is out now

The 2024 Surfari season hasn't quiet finished yet, and we are already making plans for next year. For 2025, we have a few new ideas and are expanding some of our existing trips.

For the 2025 season we will also be offering windsurf and wingfoil coaching on our Surfari Trips on request. These lessons are strictly limited to our Surfari guest and are only available by prior arrangement. We are not looking to offer a formal complete windsurf or wingfoil course, but rather be able to give on the spot tips and advice as needed for your progression.

So, what’s the Surfari Trip line-up for the next 12 months?

Our next Taranaki Wave Classic Surfari is on the 24th to 28th October and is centered around the annual event of the TWC (Taranaki Wave Classic) windsurfing event. The TWC has been running since the early 1980s (under various different names) and is one of the oldest windsurfing events worldwide, with the focus on fun rather than competition. By joining our Water Nomads Taranaki Wave Classic Surfari, you are automatically part of the TWC event, but you also have all the benefits of a classic Water Nomads Trip. Our accommodation is right across from the beach and within staggering distance of the Sunday night TWC party. For this trip, we have our own private chef (Joe) staying with us to look after your culinary needs. Joe is also a keen and very capable windsurfer.

This trip should be on your bucket list if you love wave sailing in perfect cross-offshore conditions.

Great Barrier Island, only 30 minutes flight from Auckland, but a world away. It’s neither easy nor cheap to get your toys across, that’s where Water Nomads comes in. Our Great Barrier Island Escape will be a holiday, that is centered around all sorts of water sports: Wingfoil, windsurf, surf, SUP, maybe even some snorkeling, it all depends on what the conditions will be like. And of course, soaking in the natural hot pools will be part of it!

Our Water Nomads Great Barrier Island Escape includes flexible flights and all transport ex Auckland. A bucket list trip if you want to explore and experience New Zealand like it used to be.

We are starting 2025 with two Canterbury Lakes Discovery Trips. This Surfari, based around the lakes in the MacKenzie Country in the South Island, is undoubtedly our most scenic and most adventures camp. With our accommodation in Twizel, we have 6 different lakes at our doorstep, less than an hour drive away. We aim to take you to a different spot every day, all well off the beaten track, blowing your mind with the awe inspiring scenery and the different characters of each location. A trip, that should definitely be on your bucket list if you like exploring and epic scenery.

Heidi enjoys windsurfing in the winterless north

The secret is out about Northland as a winter destination, and our Water Nomads Northland Surfari Trip is quickly becoming our most popular surfari. It is an easy 4 hours drive from Auckland or a quick flight from Queenstown or Christchurch to Kerikeri to enjoy that no-hassle winter get-away you were always looking for. Northlands water temperatures in winter are as warm or even warmer than many places in the South Island in summer (~17 degrees Celsius). The air temperature is often warm enough to sit in shorts and t-shirt as long as you are out of the wind.

After a successful Water Nomads Northland Wahine Trip in 2024, we are planning another women-only Northland Surfari for 2025! There is always a very different dynamic on women-only trips, and I’m already so looking forward to that one!

NEW for 2025 – more and more guests are asking if they could stay longer in Northland on Surfari. So in addition to our standard 3 nights Northland Surfari, we are introducing our Northland XL-Trip for 2025. This will be a 5 nights Surfari, in addition to the standard 3 nights for Northland.

Northland Surfari dates:

  • 29th May – 3rd June 2025: XL Kings Birthday Trip
  • 12th – 15th June 2025: Wahine Trip (women only)
  • 19th – 22nd June 2025: Matariki Trip
  • 3rd – 6th July 2025: School Holidays Trip
  • 10th – 15th July 2025: XL School Holidays Trip
  • 24th – 27th July 2025: Late Season Trip

As you see, there is a little bit for everyone. Be it windsurfing or winging, flat water or waves, we have you covered. And if there is really something else you would like to explore with Water Nomads or you prefer to travel at a different date, just let us know and we can set up a Water Nomads Custom Surfari for you and your friends. I hope to see you soon on the water!
