What does it cost?
Prices vary, depending how long you are renting and what exactly you’re after. The longer you rent, the better the value. We offer the latest gear from Starboard and Severne that we replace every year. You can also add accessories like a harness, soft roof racks, lockbox etc.
NB: we do have limited range of legacy equipment that can be offered at discount rates, subject to availability.
One Board: The affordable option, saves on excess baggage fees, and you ride your own quiver of sails and rig.

One Board + One Sail: Keeping it simple. Perfect for the no compromise sailor, or you have limited travel space available.

How does it work?

- You just get here, pick it up, take it with you on your trip, unlimited use, having the best time!
All our windsurf boards are supplied with fins and board bag. Windsurf sails come complete with high quality carbon mast (at least 75% carbon), boom, extension and mast foot. So you’re good to go.
We recommend booking a month in advance of your requirement to ensure we are able to service your needs. One way windsurf rentals and short notice requests may incur a fee.

Heidi gave me excellent advice before I travelled over from England and recommended Lake Clearwater which is less than two hours drive from Christchurch. Water Nomads provided an excellent board and sails for my five days and there was wind every afternoon and beautiful surroundings. Heidi even sent me a video showing me all the boom and mast settings and downhaul rigging procedure. I hired a Bach via another website and went on my own whilst my wife played in a croquet tournament in Christchurch . I met friendly windsurfers on my first day and had an absolutely wonderful time.
I can’t recommend Water Nomads highly enough! Throughout the whole process from renting to delivering the equipment Heidi did above and beyond to help me by selecting the right gear for me after 14 years without been in the water, she even went out of her way to connect me with windsurfers in the area where I was going so I could feel at home. Thank you so much Heidi for all you have done and surely this was the first time working with you but certainly not the last!!!
I came to New Zealand from Chile for a 2-month windsurf trip, and Water Nomads really helped me so much planning the journey and offering me high quality equipment! The were always available to answer my questions with kindness... even questions not direcrly related to windsurf, such as where to sleep or where to buy a car. Also, the prices for gear rental are very convenient and in extraordinary quality. I REALLY recommend Water Nomads for a windsurfing trip in order to use great equipment and also to avoid the airport pains because of carrying your own stuff.

Sorry no, we currently do not offer windsurfing lessons. However there are a few of Windsurf schools in the main centres throughout New Zealand where you can begin you Windsurfing journey.
Once you are on you way, you can then rent from us.
Sorry no, if you are just beginning and learning to windsurf you are best to continue with a few more lessons and water time on beginner gear.
Our gear is suitable from “advanced beginner” to “expert/pro” where you are comfortable in harness and footsteps and now learning to gybe and beyond.

Water Nomads Windsurf Rental Centre does not operate out of a physical shop. This means we are not tied to a specific location. We simply work with your travel plans to offer the best place to pick-up and drop-off the gear at nearly any major centre in New Zealand.
Sorry but New Zealand does not have resorts like the Med and Europe. Its why we are the adventure capital of the world, part of the fun is exploring, and that’s where we can help.
